The Smoke Alarm That Wasn't
a NEW IMPROVED HEAD special report

The world recently uncelebrated the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. The invasion of Iraq was preceded by the publication here of four essays about course of action the United States was likely to take to deal with Iraq. Of course, we're biassed, but we believe that these esays by themselves told you more about the Iraq crisis of 2003 than did the entire production of the mainstream North American press. The essays have been kept posted on this site as the Smoking Gun Essays – an ironic (okay, sarcastic) title, since they all dismissed the popular notion of a smoking gun as irrelevant.

Last week noted blogger Johnny Eleven published a review of the Smoking Gun Essays in which he made the disturbing suggestion that the mental processes used by George W. Bush may be the wave of the future. This week the authors of the original essays publish their evaluations of their own essays in light of the events of the last five years.
