What We Aren't Fighting For
by R. Maud Wingo of the Center for Creative Alternatives to Tyranny

October 11, 2006

North Korea’s explosion of a nuclear bomb this past week showed once again the perils in which democracy now finds itself. In these days of political correctness, people often lose sight of the reasons why we must both oppose tyrants like Kim Jong-Il and wholeheartedly support the pillars of democracy. But the time is too late for us to continue in our misguided attempts not to give offence to even the most despicable among us. To bring home to everyone the superiority of democracy to tyranny, I have compiled the following list of crucial differences between Kim Jong-Il and one of those pillars of democracy, George W. Bush.

 Kim Jong-Il... George W. Bush…
Got his job from his dad Got his job from his dad’s friends
Has nuclear weapons Has nukular weapons
Only addresses handpicked crowds of Party faithful Usually addresses handpicked crowds of Party faithful
Imposes will by fiat Imposes will by subverting legislation with signing statements and executive orders
Keeps his people ignorant of the outside world Not a problem – American people already wilfully ignorant of outside world
Maintains huge armed forces to protect state against imperialist aggression Maintains huge armed forces to protect state against terrorist agression
Tried to establish an ideologically correct North Korean film industry Attacks ideologically incorrect American film industry
Secretly violated the Agreed Framework with the United States Publicly violated the Geneva Conventions and the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments
Has destroyed the North Korean economy Turned a budget surplus into a deficit, on his watch dollar lost over a quarter of its exchange value
Rules by terror Rules by error
Since he’s not president of North Korea, has never even had to pretend to run for office You can’t fool all of the people all of the time…but you can fool enough
