NEW IMPROVED HEAD spirituality editorThose Darn Commandments (1) A series of exercises designed to awaken your spirituality
by Pastor Bob,
Hello, friends. Many people say to me “Gee, Pastor Bob, I'd love to be a religious person, but I have serious issues with those commandment things. How can I spend my life being commanded to do things and still achieve the full expression of self-actualization which is so important in today's modern world?"You've come to the right place to ask that question, friends. We believe there's been too much confusion over these so-called commandments. We believe that when understood correctly the commandments can be seen to be no more than simple statements of fact that everyone would follow if they had the will and the opportunity. Well, here's your opportunity!
Let's look at the first commandment: Thou shalt have none other gods but me. Sounds pretty arbitrary and arrogant, doesn't it? But let's think about this a bit. Elsewhere in the Bible, friends, we are told that we were made in God's image! In other words, God is us, and we are God! So the commandment means simply that we have no other god but ourselves. Yes, thousands of years ago God knew about the importance of self esteem! All you have to do to obey this commandment is to build up that self-esteem we all know is so important!
Here's your first simple spiritual exercise: Stand in front of a mirror and while looking deeply into your eyes repeat "I shall have none other gods but me." Repeat as often as necessary.
Practise that exercise for a week, and then we'll give you the next one!
